On October 12th, 2025, at approximately 18:25 hrs, the Woodstock Police Force responded to a suspicious person complaint on Houlton Street in Woodstock. It was reported that a male was seen attempting to break into an attended transport truck before walking away. Shortly after, police located a 24-year-old male nearby. A short foot pursuit took place, and the male was taken into custody.
Following a search of the male’s belongings, police located a loaded sawed-off shotgun and stolen property. James Morgan Demerchant was remanded into custody and has been charged with a number of offences, including the following:
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm contrary to an Order
• Careless storage of a Firearm
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Carrying a concealed weapon
• Possession of stolen property
